Friday May 12, 2017 Lehigh University’s 45th Special Education Law Conference 7:30 AM – 4 PM (Advance registration required by April 25, 2017) At this year’s conference for all members of the educational community, David Thalheimer will co-present an afternoon session titled “The Substantive Standard for FAPE: How Much Benefit Is Required?” From the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Board of Education v. Rowley (1982) and the Third Circuit’s subsequent decision in Polk v. Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit 16 (1988) to the long line of FAPE cases culminating in the Supreme Court’s current consideration ofEndrew F. v. Douglas County School District, what is the evolving substantive standard for the amount and scope of educational benefit that the IDEA requires for students with disabilities? Thursday April 13, 2017 St. Joseph’s University/Kinney Autism Center David Thalheimer recently did an evening question and answer session on compensatory education with a group of students working towards certification as Behavior Analysts at St. Joseph’s University in conjunction with the Kinney Autism Center. Topics covered included identifying resources as permissible uses of compensatory education and how to support families in using their comp ed funds (i.e. provide consultation and behavioral support via compensatory education).
